Merry Christmas all!
I am sure that you can all agree that when we are learning digital art it is always a blessing to be able to use and practice with free stock. It is a helpful and valuable asset and a lot of stock providers allow you to post your resulting art, derived from your stock, to their sites to show their growth, skill and work.
But we all know that there is a large danger to unsolicited use of stock, broken rules and people out there taking advantage of images on the internet.
Now this could be due to ignorance of creative commons laws, copyright laws though lack of education, or from the other side of the scale where someone ignores rules, regulations and copyright to illegally sell and distribute work commercially for financial gain.
Now some of you may have run across me at some time, since I have been on the scene for a long time, and have probably contacted you, used your stock, or commented on your work. So I am pretty familiar with most of the big and long standing account holders on this site...I recognise your work and your stock - know your rules and your commercial usage prices.
But what I am coming across recently is a little disturbing. I am seeing well know stock from deviant art providers being sold on FB book cover pages.
Now I create and sell my book cover designs using a mixture of purchased stock from websites, absolutely free stock that is available for commercial use provided by other artists - and stated in their rules and regulations - and my own photographic stock. I have contacted a number of you for a list of your pricing for commercial use...anywhere between $50 - $1000, yet I am seeing the same stock used on these sites on book covers listed at low prices that do not make any sense to me as a graphic designer and artist.
Please be advised that I am not pointing the finger at any one individual, for I do not know all the details of their lives and what agreements they may have with any of you, or if they are purchasing the stock on stock websites that the stock providers on this site are now using or making available.
But from artist to artist, be advised to please take the time to have a look at these pages to moderate and protect your own interests. I would certainly like for someone to let me know if they saw my work being illegally used and sold.
Merry Christmas guys, I hope that 2017 brings you many new projects and adventures.
